🇵🇹 Types of Portuguese Brandy
Aguardente Vínica (Wine Brandy)
Distilled from wine, similar to Cognac or Spanish Brandy de Jerez.
Often aged in oak barrels for a smooth, complex flavor.
Examples: Macieira, Aguardente Velha (old brandy), Constantino, CRF Reserva.
Bagaceira (Pomace Brandy)
Made from the grape skins and seeds left after winemaking (like Italian Grappa).
Typically stronger, drier, and more rustic.
Consumed as a traditional after-dinner digestif.
Aguardente de Medronho
Distilled from the fruit of the strawberry tree (medronho).
Specialty of the Algarve and Alentejo regions.
Fruity, aromatic, and quite potent.
