Overall: The official joint survey (Assoenologi + UIV + ISMEA) calls 2025 very good to excellent in most regions, with healthy fruit and a crop around 47.4 Mhl (+~8% vs 2024). Early starts in many areas from summer heat, but grapes generally came in clean. WineNews+3assoenologi.it+3ismea.it+3
Regional Notes You Can Trade On
Northeast (Trentino–Alto Adige, Veneto, Friuli)
Whites (PG, Chardonnay, Glera): Fresh aromatics, good natural acid, and clean ferments. The Prosecco base is described as very good. Cronache di Gusto+1
Northwest (Piedmont, Lombardy)
Aromatic whites show lift and precision. Reds exhibit solid color and phenolic ripeness where yields were controlled. Cronache di Gusto
Central Italy (Tuscany, Umbria, Marche)
The region has largely healthy fruit. Tuscany trimmed volumes in some DOC/DOCG to protect balance. Quality guidance trends are very good. Gambero Rosso International
South & Islands (Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia)
Robust reds (e.g., Primitivo, Nero d’Avola) show concentration. Whites retained vibrancy despite heat when picked on time. Recovery in Southern volumes compared to 2024 is noted, with quality rated as good–very good. Agronotizie+1
Weather & Vineyard Conditions
Heat and dry spells advanced ripening. Harvests occurred earlier than normal in many zones, but overall, the fruit came in sound. Agronotizie
Producer bodies flagged good sanitary status and aromatic definition in early pickings. Reds show color and structure. Cronache di Gusto
What This Means for Bulk Buyers (Quality → Pricing)
Clean musts and low NTU lots should be easier to source than in 2024. This will help you achieve lower filtration costs and faster loadouts on whites. Expect firm but rational pricing on DOC PG & Prosecco base given strong quality signals. Agronotizie
Generic whites: Freshness and good acid mean stable base wines for blends. The quality backdrop supports the mid of quoted €/Hº bands from chambers/ISMEA. ismea.it
Southern reds: Availability is up compared to 2024, with healthy phenolics. This keeps price competition alive for medium-grade color and ABV specifications. Agronotizie+1
Stocks Context: Italy still had ~36 Mhl in tanks as of 30 September 2025 (ICQRF).
